File sharing is one of the most popular online activities these days so users are continuously looking for new methods to make their life easier in this regard. There’s no secret that the BitTorrent protocol has attracted a huge number of fans in the last couple of years so, as a direct result, more and more clients have seen daylight.
This is also the case of BitComet, one of the top players in this particular category, but one that still struggles to face competition and rise up to the expectations. It does basically the same thing as all the other BitTorrent clients: it lets users download files at very high speeds. But it promises to do a lot more.
Installing BitComet shouldn’t take too much time if you ignore the steps where it requires you to install some unnecessary and annoying software such as toolbars and add-ons that the app doesn’t need to work properly. In case you’re wondering, that’s also the reason why BitComet is marked as ad-supported on Softpedia, so extra attention is recommended when installing the software.
Using it however is not that hard if you already got used to BitTorrent clients. Otherwise, you won’t feel too comfortable when browsing through its menus, as the whole interface is full of links that could direct you to various websites. Truth is, BitComet provides a list of the most popular Torrent sites, as well as a search engine to look for the desired files, but we’d always choose a cleaner and simpler interface.
Leaving all these things aside, BitComet seems to work just like the rest of the crowd, although during our test it was a bit heavy on computer resources every time we downloaded files at high speeds. It however comes with speed limiters, so that you’ll be sure that computer performance won’t be affected too much when downloading files.
Overall, BitComet seems to be just one of the guys that struggle to reach the elite of this software category but it doesn’t really manage to rise to the expectations. A better interface with a more user friendly approach would definitely give it a boost.
